Call Me Selfish
Mari Morris
Copyright 5-15-2026
Call me selfish. And you would be right.
Call You selfish. And you would be right.
(Uh-oh.... Don't even go there?)
I just lost Half of my audience.
All two of us.
Which means that I must be the only person listening right now.
And I am not even sure that I want to hear this one...
If I took it all back, would you consider returning?
Probably not.
Your selfishness would never allow you to forgive me.
Have I suddenly become your enemy because I tell you the Truth? (Galatians 4:16)
Oh Ye who are no longer here...
After I selfishly called us all selfish, there are just me and my Audience of One now.
Unfortunately, this subject is right up my alley! So, let's go there.
I am thinking about the Book of James now. And I really don't want to look in the mirror on this... issue. I always walk away and forget what I saw anyways. Sort of an intentional spiritual/mental block kind of thing. Sometimes I won't even call it what it really is.
Sin.
After all, it's not a "mistake", or a "misunderstanding". Or an "issue". Or a, ...”sorry if ‘you’ felt that way”.
All of that is just pointless deflection in an attempt to disguise the truth...
My sin is still there even if I refuse to admit it. I might as well be humble and confess it outright.
And who am I kidding anyways? God can see it. And every single person that has ever been in my life can see it.
I cannot think of even a single sin in the entire world that doesn't begin... and end with selfishness.
It is the extremely huge Elephant that is in every single room that I will ever enter.
I can only turn to my Audience of One now - with my sin.
Because I know that He is the One and Only remedy.
By humbly confessing the truth of my sin, I can finally leave that horrendous Elephant at the zoo.
Forever!
And since humble confession is required for true repentance - Please...
Call me selfish.
Call you selfish.
So that we can both be free...
In the Name of Jesus.
Amen
