CLEAN SLATE

Mari Morris

Sometimes as I go through life, it causes me to reflect on things that don't always occur to me at the time when I need them the most...

Today, I have been thinking so very much about the value of a Clean Slate (both giving and/or receiving one). Whether we realize it or not, on any given day, we all need a Clean Slate every day. (Maybe multiple times in one day? ...Ouch!)

And I start by knowing that I can never possibly view myself in the same way that people around me will view me. Hero with some people — Zero with others. It can be very difficult to see where my own blind spots are.

We can all say or do things with no ill intent at all — only to find out that we have really upset someone!

In that case, whether I am in any way truly "guilty" or not, I would need a Clean Slate (at least from the person that I upset). Those who regard me as Hero will be supportive and kind (while also pointing out things for me to consider), while those who regard me as Zero can whisper and ponder, "How could she possibly be so inconsiderate?!"

It seems to me then, that the less we immediately (seek to and/or actually) take offense, on both sides, the less either of us will require a Clean Slate from each other.

I am thinking now about the Heart that is So Kind — that it honestly never even occurred to them to even take any offense at all! As in, I am apologizing, and they are like, "I sincerely don't know what you mean. You didn't do anything wrong!"

That is the kind of Heart that I long to have every single day... but—

For those of us who haven't achieved that level of greatness yet... (Lol), we'll just have to get really Amazingly good at forgiving and granting a Clean Slate from the most generous Heart that we can possibly hope to own.

I think that one of the best possible ways to be Free from guilt, fear, and pain... is to live with a Heart that is willing to help set others Free... from guilt, fear, and pain.

Therein lies the Loving and Beautiful, Extraordinary, Power Of Forgiveness!

(Can I get an Amen?!)
