If God Could Tell You One Thing...

Mari Morris

Copyright 06/06/2026

In the true story that I wrote for my Sister Linda SOMETHING SHE COULD DO FOR GOD I told of her head injury and her life in the nursing home.

Here is another true story from her life. One of many.

I always hesitated to call myself Linda’s caretaker because she was in 24/7 care facilities and hospitals for 28 years. And our Mother was her Legal Guardian.

But in the sense of routinely visiting her - and bringing her things she might need, I was her caretaker.

And I spent hours helping her on a spell board, to develop a form of communication.

I did everything that I could to remain positive and encouraging. Focusing on the negativity was not going to bring hope or help to my Sister.

When the accident happened, she wasn’t even supposed to survive the night.

It was worth anything we had to go through, just to have her with us. I understood very well that God gave us a chance with Linda, that other families never got.

I often told people that SHE was my “Reward” for everything we endured.

As a result, I rarely if ever discussed my own trauma. Even so it was a mental and emotional roller coaster for us.

And life didn’t just stop there, with no other problems.

We lost other loved ones. We still had everyday life issues and other heartaches occurring.

At times, it all became so profoundly unbearable. I was just putting one foot in front of the other, and no more than that.

Sometimes it felt (quite literally), like I was inhaling and exhaling pain with every breath.

It was during those times that I never stopped praying. Though now, I was calling it begging...  Because that's what it really was.

One Day, I was getting ready to leave the house for my visit with Linda. Just before I left, I prayed/begged for God to speak to me. I was desperate.

And I said: “God, if you could tell me one thing – just one thing what would you tell me?"

When I got to the nursing home, Linda and I were visiting normally. Linda was spelling everything out to me on the spell board as we talked.

Suddenly – (for no reason at all), she just stopped spelling in mid-sentence.

As I watched her start to spell again letter-by- letter; I sat there completely speechless!

Because only God and I knew anything about what she was spelling...

She spelled: Mari - If God could tell you one thing - just one thing:

He would tell you…

Never give up!"

Epilogue:  Linda passed away in that nursing home after more than 28 years, in Dec 2019.
She is now casting crowns at the feet of our dear Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

I love this account of your experience with your sister, and the tremendous value she had in your life, in spite of so much trauma. What a beautiful writing, and I love her divinely inspired words to you that you shared, "Never give up!" My heart goes out to you for your loss, and rejoices with you at her eternal joy of being in the presence of Jesus.

Thanks so much for your comments on my articles, too. I appreciate it!
