hearing words that someone spoke,
Twinkling stars gave me a nod--
What. . .me. . .the voice was God’s?
I rubbed my eyes and shook my head
and learned about His sacred bread,
A moonbeam skipped across the floor
sweeping smoldering ashes from years before
I watched you, child, try to sleep
and know each thought you dare not speak
You were here? I don’t recall. . .
I saw your every teardrop fall
His presence--calming, so kind, His eyes
He claimed me His to my surprise
So soft the voice which brought me peace
He offered me such sweet release
My cares, no more my burdens be,
in love He took them all from me
The clock chimed twelve, I was tired
sleep finally came--so long desired
The visit concluded by day’s end
I’ll forever call this Jesus, Friend
My encounter--skeptics don’t believe
but my faith’s alive through love received
Now on the dawn of each day’s gift
to Him my heart and mind shall lift
I know beyond all worldly ways
there’s only one worthy of my praise
