For the bread of God is he which cometh down from heaven, and giveth life unto the world.
Then said they unto him, Lord, evermore give us this bread.
And Jesus said unto them, I am the bread of life: he that cometh to me shall never hunger; and he that believeth on me shall never thirst.
John 6:32-25 (KJV)

Diet.
It’s such a powerful word, because of the simple, necessary word behind it: food.
Our bodies need food as fuel. We have to consume just the right amount of food: If we eat too little, we will become sickly and anemic. If we eat too much, we will become obsessively obese. Either way, we need to watch and balance our diet.
At the turn of every New Year, we are inundated with advertisements with diets from all directions: the North Beach Diet, the South Beach Diet, The East Diet. The New West Diet. There’s even the Mid East Diet and the Far East Diet.
You’ve heard the old adage: You are what you eat.
It’s a serious thing because if we don’t take the time to take care of ourselves and eat the right things, we will reap what we have sown.
If you eat a lot of fatty, fried, sugar-filled processed high fructose corn syrup laden foods, you will puff up like a extra large bucket of double-buttered movie popcorn.
The same principal is true spiritually: You are what you eat.
Our spiritual bodies need the Word of God as fuel. We have to consume just the right amount of the Word of God: If we eat too little, we will become sickly and anemic. If we eat too much, we will become obsessively obese. Either way, we need to watch and balance our spiritual diet.
It’s a serious thing because if we don’t take the time to take care of our spiritual selves and take in the right amount of the Word of God, we will reap what we have sown.
If we don’t read, study and meditate on the bread of life—the Word of God—we will become spiritually anemic and grow cold in our relationship with Jesus, and not be effective in the kingdom of God. In the other hand, if we eat too much spiritually, and over eat the Word of God, and spend all our time reading about the kingdom of God in Christian books, we can become lazy and ineffective, selfishly not sharing what we know with our neighbors.
Diet.
When it comes to the Word of God, think of the word ‘diet’ as a contraction of these words: Die without it.
Diet is such a powerful spiritual word, too, because without a regular, daily diet of the Word of God, we’ll spiritually die without it.
The Word of God even describes itself!
For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.
Hebrews 4:12 (KJV)
Simply put: a diet of the Word of God cuts to the heart of the matters in our lives, every day.
I encourage you, friend, to purchase or download a One Year Bible as soon as you are able to. If you have access to a Bible already you can read it through this way: Read 2 chapters in the Old Testament and 1 chapter in the New Testament, every day.
We do not need to look in all directions for the latest, fashionable spiritual diet that may not work in the end, anyway: It’s time to get back to basics and consume the Word of God, every day.

“Father, I realize my diet of the Word of God has not been what it should be. I repent of what I have been doing to this point. Please help me realize that all of the Christian books, programs, concerts and special events, while important, should never replace the Christian basics. I need to spend precious time with You by reading, studying and meditating on Your Word in prayer, and times of fasting. Please help me act on the apostolic faith that has been delivered to me. In Your Name, Jesus. Amen.”
