The Lord once asked a man of God “will these dry bones live?” as they stood over looking a valley of dry dead mans bones. That same question begs to be asked today concerning the body of Christ. We all agree that the church is not a building and that it is us Christians who make up the church, otherwise known as the body of Christ. We also know that the body is made up of different parts with different jobs and responsibilities. The eyes have theirs and the feet have theirs and they all ad up to one functioning body, the body of Christ with Him being the head. When I look out over the church in America today I see a valley full of dry bones separated from each other with little or no connectivity. We have taken the major appendages of the body, namely the hands, feet, arms etc and broken them further down into sinew, tendons, veins arteries and skin. Supposedly all the same body but performing separate task, separate being the key word here. The church has been dissected into so many parts; some have forgotten that they are part of one body and not a separate entity unto themselves. We have disconnected ourselves through denominations and doctrine, by baptisms and catechisms, by politics and race to the point where we are no longer a body but body parts. Can these dry bones live?
Take New York for example, in the Bronx, Brooklyn or queens it’s not unusual to find 2 sometimes 3 churches within 2 blocks of each other. There they are supposedly the same body yet separated, they don’t even fellowship together they are like tumors or extra appendages, what body needs that. Why can’t the 3 become 1 and work together? Can these dry bones live? God only you know.
