Of the vocal persuasion;
I suppose we could call it
A cricket invasion;
Two insects times two turned
A multiple equation.
A black crumb in a corner,
Or black lint on the floor,
Are they spies in disguise?
If they want to explore,
They should line up each thorax
And march straight out my door.
My heart hits the ceiling
When they leap my direction;
I scream and swat air
With a rolled up Sports section.
I don’t need to repeat
Eighth grade science dissection.
Some call it indulgence,
Chocolate covered cricket crunch;
Still I prefer less movement
For an appetizing lunch.
But if I could catch the critters,
I’d sell them by the bunch.
Some nations might be horrified
And call crushed bugs a waste.
Those who think they’re lucky
Recommend they be embraced;
Still some say God’s creatures
Should not be killed in haste.
I admit they have a purpose
And are perfectly designed
However…
Black Crickets in my shoes,
That’s where I draw the line;
Though they can’t sing in my shower,
An outdoor recital’s fine.
