Sweet fragrances linger, visitors find peace
But in Gethsemane anguish was building
Jesus felt crushed as He prayed for release
One Springtime night with heart heavy laden
His face to the ground, grief stricken He spoke
“My Father! Remove this cup of suffering”
His shoulders now bore the sin-covered yoke
Trembling emotions, human in source
Blood soaked earth with sweat from His pores
The God-man in obedience surrendered
“Father, I want not my will, but Yours”
What love propelled our Father in heaven
To offer His son for ones that betrayed
Its magnitude no mortal ever can fathom
In mercy God stamped His children “Debt Paid”
Each time we’re given a fresh cup of blessing
Each prayer answered with mercy and grace
Remember the one given our Savior
The cup that caused Him to fall on his face
Throughout life seasons none will escape
Freedom from pain nor days filled with dread
But be assured that through our believing
All shall live even though we are dead
Matthew 26:39 (NLT) He . . . fell face down on the ground, praying, “My Father! If it is possible, let this cup of suffering be taken away from me. Yet I want your will, not mine.”
