A reflective prism is God’s word
A place where His voice is heard
The hardened glass of my soul
Insulates, pretends I’m whole
Alone, angry and so afraid

Depending on the need that day
A different light is sent our way
Echoes of pain press at me
Intimacy is my plea
Used, abused and now refused

Exacting angles are applied
To the one whose heart has cried
Silver tears run down by face
As memories haunt me in this place
Disdained, discarded and sent away

Penetrating light to reach the lost
A price was paid there was a cost
Imputation and such blame
Self-reproach and the shame
Outcast, slave and left to die

Flickering light to soothe and heal
Are sent to those who before Him kneel
The hardened glass it cracks and breaks
Broken now of all self-hate
"God let him live" is now my plea for the child inside of me

Twinkling lights shine from His word
Illuminating those whose sight has blurred
Spectral colors warm my face
As I receive His saving grace
A pagan handmaid has been changed

Obstacles may be in the way so
He sends refracted light our way
In the looking glass of His word
I know my voice has been heard
El-Roi is the One who sees

What we need is found today
As God’s word lights our way
In-to-me-see was my plea
In this dark night of my soul
In-to-me God did see


Genesis 16:13 (NKJV)
Then she called the name of the LORD who spoke to her, You-Are-The-God Who-Sees;
for she said, “Have I also here seen Him who sees me?”
