One rainy morning
For incessant dripping
And husband snoring
Groggy, climbed I
Out of my bed
Greeted by the voice of one
Demanding red head
“Aaah bah bah!”
Means, “I'll take my milk now,
Warmed in a cup
With my morning chow.”
With baby now settled
In his highchair
To the kitchen I go
For my coffee's made there
I pour in the water
And measure the grind
Suddenly, “BOO!”
Comes from behind
I scream like a girl
Throw my hands in the air
My daughter just smiles,
“I did it on a dare.”
Holding fast to the counter
With hand on my heart
I gently scold her,
“You gave me a start!”
I hunt for the broom
And grab the dust pan
Tossing my perfectly measured coffee
Into the garbage can
Hearing the calamity
My honey arose from the bed
Put on his clothes
And a hat on his head
Without a word
He gathers his keys
Walks out the door
And I hit my knees
“Why does he get to leave?”
I question my Father
“With all this chaos
He can't be bothered?”
“My clueless child,”
He says to me
“You prayed for patience
So just wait and see.”
I stomp and grunt
Around the house
Stopped by an opening door
Where I see my spouse
Smiling at me
With mischievous eyes
He held a caramel macchiato
Extra caramel, grande sized
He hands me the drink
With a kiss and a hug
I could only shake my head and laugh,
“I love you, you big lug!”
Good things come to those that wait.

Very cute poem--the meter's a bit raggedy, but hey, so was your narrator!
Sweet ending, what a great reward for the sleepy, patient mom. Such a vivid poem. Love baby's cry for milk. I want you to show more bewilderment/surprise at husband's departure to show us that this isn't him leaving for work, which would be odd without at least saying good-bye.
I love the surprise at the end when "honey" brings home coffee.
Great job.
