The sun was dazzling. Its brilliance made the water sparkle like newly cleaned diamonds. The day expelled mirth and warmth and sounds of gaiety were all around. Children were laughing, splashing, and screaming with delight. Waves gently lapped the shore, and dogs joyously barked at birds squawking as they swooped past.

In spite of the blazing sun, there was one who was not warm. Cold surrounded her like a thick fog. Strangely, she found comfort in the icy darkness of this private world and snuggled down deeper. Her body was suspended, floating freely, but her soul was an anchor. Part of her longed to share in the muffled sounds of the distant world above, but she clung fiercely to the blanket of shadows wrapped around her. Despair settled over her being and blackness took away all light.

Craving oxygen, her lungs began to ache, but the pain was welcome. It distracted her troubled mind from another pain. One not so easily resolved. She was imprisoned by grief. Her choices held her hostage.

Unable to endure the stinging in her lungs any longer, she rolled onto her back and greedily drank in the celebrated air. As she stood, wiping the water from her eyes, it was like having a shroud torn from her head. What was muffled and bleak was suddenly full of sound and merriment. Her senses were overwhelmed and she paused, mesmerized. Her world of darkness, her private refuge of pain, had been instantaneously transformed. She looked down at the water searching for an answer, although, previously it held none.

The intensity with which the water mirrored the sky, forced her gaze upward. Finally, she found what she was seeking. The sun. Radiant and bright bringing warmth and laughter. The sun was the answer. The Son was the answer. Relief flooded her soul as understanding began to develop. Doubt swiftly rebuked her with his devious voice saying it could not be that easy. Light refused Darkness. Change is as quick as a turn away. A simple roll from what is dark to what is Light. Breathe in the new air of Light. At any moment, of any day, that turn can be made.
