Gazing at the sinner’s fruit
With just one greedy selfish bite
A friendship I did uproot
The winds blow treacherously tonight
As if to break my soul
Why shouldn’t they, on second thoughts
Come swallow me as whole
My heart’s weary, my steps heavy
My feelings run amuck
Oh why, oh why did I stoop so low
For just a want of luck
I hid my face within my palms
And cried with no restrain
The stab I’d placed on my Trusting Friend
Now causing me the pain
With quivering hands I took some leaves
And sewed them in a string
While tears flowed down my soggy eyes
No comfort did it bring
I heard a rustle amongst the shrubs
My heartbeats throbbed aloud
Not today dear Lord, Oh lets not meet
I clenched my leafy shroud
Resistant eyes dared not look up
For fear of how it’d behold
The eyes of a loving caring Friend
With sorrows deep untold
“Adam”, said a familiar but remorseful voice
I looked from whence it came
There stood in the thicket, adorned with leaves
My Eve, her eyes strewn with shame
“You, you wretched woman,” I screamed
“Dare you show your face again”
“Its not me my Adam who’s at fault,” she pled
“The serpent’s the one to blame”
Bitterness and anger crept in my soul
How evil it did feel
We’d never exchanged such filthy words
I hated this ordeal
While we were ranting threateningly
Another rustle broke our fight
Ravenous hissing and laughter followed soon
The serpent enjoying our plight
My heart sank in, my spirit died
I couldn’t hold back more tears
Greatly ashamed of the dastardly deed
In return for those faithful years
How could I’ve been such a wicked fool
As if anything for me was barred
In just one act of disobedience
I desired equality with a Holy God
I heard my Maker’s footstep sound
As a cool breeze swayed the leaves
Oh with what visage could I appear
Let me hide behind these trees
Dubiously trying to conceal myself
I froze with bated breath
All life stood still at the Eden garden
Silence as cold as death
“Adam, Adam Oh where are you”
Came His yet endearing sound
I gulped a tear right down my throat
My hopes now ran aground
Hesitatingly my words spilled out
“Lord I’m hiding away from You
I heard You walk the garden path
I am naked and afraid of You”
“Who told you, you’re naked ?” He asked
Have you eaten from the tree?”
My heart skipped several desperate beats
As the truth now cornered me
In a scrambling attempt to save myself
I blamed my fate on Eve
She frantically pointed at the snake and said
“Lord, I have been deceived”
All said and done my mind went blank
As I stared at my beloved Friend
How foolishly I hid from the Omniscient One
Who knows the beginning and the end
The punishments He gave out that night
Were not painful to me
But that drop of tear I caught in His eyes
Ripped out my heart from me
Love so amazing so precious and divine
So ready my sins to forgive
My soul so wretched and drenched with guilt
Didn’t deserve at all to live
If you do know my Precious Lord and Friend
Don’t be a fool like me
To hide away from His righteousness
When only He can set us free
Let us then approach His throne of grace
His mercy to receive
And seek His grace He freely gives
To help us in our time of need
