Topic: Pros and Cons (08/14/14)
and Heaven watched

each trembling shiver
each fearful quiver
each murmur of dismay
each whispered word
each complaint heard
each trust-hope fade away.



Faced with a giant,
Challenged by taunt,
Day and night troubled
By nightmarish haunt,
A human colossus
Encompassed in bronze
The Israelites trembled
Rehearsing the ‘cons’ …
“We’re skilled as an army,
We work as a team,
Our strength’s in our numbers,
It’s far too extreme
To volunteer freely
Just one man, forlorn,
‘fore nine foot of muscle
And mind-blowing brawn.
His power is a legend,
His history, his skill,
One swipe of his sword,
He’d a multitude kill,
To solely take on
This villain of vice
Is a lamb to the slaughter,
A fool’s sacrifice.
We’re skilled as an army,
But, individually, -
God wouldn’t expect it,
He wouldn’t, would He?”

and Heaven watched

one believing heart,
one set apart ,
one shepherd with his rod ,
one who relied
that by his side
was the Almighty God.


Faced with this giant,
Challenged by taunt,
Angered that one
‘gainst all Heaven could flaunt
A contest defiant,
Hurl insolent blows,
Young David stepped forth
Rehearsing the ‘pros’….
“ You see a giant,
Who can overthrow.
I see an en’my of God
And this foe
Is dead while he stands
Because he’s defied
The great Living Lord
Who stands at my side.
He is our Deliverer,
I stand here before
The One who has saved me
From wild predator.
And this day, forever,
He’ll take from your sight
The one who has filled you
With consuming fright.
Your skill as an army,
Your breath every day,
Is from Him alone,
And you’ll witness today
His great mighty power
‘gainst rebellion so wild -
Stand firm, God expects it,
He’ll equip His child.”

Your pen (or keyboard) is the brush and the words are the paint. With each stroke, you pull the reader into the minds of all involved. The topic is highlighted perfectly. I totally enjoyed this stunning picture you painted. I imagine like any great work, different people will take different messages from this piece which takes true talent.

This piece just begs to be recited aloud. The tempo is great and carries one to the end.I love the way you retold the story of David and Goliath from the viewpoint of a watching God in Heaven and that the cons were at first so positive and reasonable, but became cons in contrast to faith. Brilliant! Sometimes God is waiting for US to turn the cons into pros.

Margaret, another winner (congrats on the Editor's Choice award), masterfully written--We have come to expect no less from you. This is one I want to read over and over. (You've taken a favorite Bible story and created a beautiful rendition of it). I hope you're thinking of publishing your work in a book. I love this.
