Then he was found by Pharaoh’s daughter as she was enjoying a river’s bath
His sister watched near the waters edge and would speak up for her brother
Pharaoh’s daughter would need a nursemaid so Miriam ran and brought their mother
She nursed and nurtured her secret son, watched him adapt to life in a palace
Only God knew the plans he had for him as he spared Moses from Pharaoh’s malice
He grew up with every privilege that only great wealth could secure
But when Moses witnessed a Hebrew’s beating--that was more than his heart could endure
So he killed the Egyptian oppressor, then buried his body deep in the sand
But when his actions were seen by another, Moses checked out of the palace grand
He found safety among some strangers and in due time the old pharaoh died
Israel’s children groaned still in bondage and God heard their sorrowed cries
Now God had a plan for Moses, and time had come for its unveiling
“Rescue my chosen from Pharaoh--tell my children I’ve heard their wailing”
God promised to deliver His children, equipping Moses for each task ahead
The Israelites followed their leader--God’s plagues filled Egypt with dread
The tenth plague brought Egypt to its knees, Pharaoh agreed, “Let God’s people go”
Then his mind changed, and with chase they pursued--but their evil could not overthrow
Moses’ rod opened up the Red Sea till God’s people on dry land stood
Those in pursuit were crushed by the waves--Israel watched and believed God is good
He provided food and drink for them, leading tribes by day and by night
He tested them in the desert dry so to strengthen them in their plight
Years passed and their faith grew thin, each wanting more gratification
Their grumblings made their journey long--What has changed since that generation?
At last they crossed the Jordan into the promised land of milk and honey
God’s promises are as real today--count on Him and not your money
On His every word you can depend, He will hear if you should call
He feels your pain, smiles with your joys, and picks you up each time you fall
