Not many presents under the tree.
Santa is broke and I could just cry,
My attitude stinks...just to testify.
I’m tired of looking for just the right deal,
Black Friday no longer a one-day appeal.
It steals my Thanksgiving with tempting schemes,
And I’m forced to pass on pie and ice cream.
Is the holiday spirit taking a break?
I’m just so weary that my muscles ache.
How will I ever give with a generous heart
When the lack of money pulls me apart.
Too many sweets have fattened my body,
Clothes way too tight, I look rather shoddy.
My hair is receding and needs much repair
Four weeks till Christmas, will anyone care?
My home is in shambles with so much to do,
There’s cleaning and baking and coffee to brew.
Guests are arriving before I’m prepared,
I’m not ready this year, I simply declared!
Trimming the tree should be fun and relaxing,
But over the years, it can be quite taxing.
Climbing the ladder to balance my star,
Searching for hooks wherever they are.
As I look in the box with the manger intact,
I pick up each piece I so carefully wrapped.
My heart skips a beat as I drop to my knees,
Cradling each piece of my wise men three.
The baby Jesus so full of grace,
Lay at my feet awaiting his place.
My hands shook a little as I softened his bed
And put him down gently bowing my head.
Lord, forgive me for being so grumpy and sad,
The trivial things that made me so mad.
They don’t compare to the blessings you give,
That Christmas is why we joyfully live.
