To manger scene and Christmas story
With shepherds and a guiding star
And angels singing of His glory.
The prophets’ words are proved untrue.
God’s promises we cannot trust.
Our Savior’s life was lived in vain,
And dying man is merely dust.
Messiah was not crucified.
The Father’s will was left undone.
Our Lord was but a mortal man,
And Satan had the victory won.
He did not wear a crown of thorns,
Or have a sword thrust in His side.
No curtain was rent from heaven to earth.
There were no final words He cried.
There was no tomb with stone unrolled,
No resurrection to unfold,
No risen Christ we could behold,
No Gospel story to be told.
There is no reason for our faith,
Our hope that we’ll forever be
With loved ones who have gone before
With God for all eternity.
There is no other sacrifice,
No others death that would suffice,
No others blood that would atone,
But Jesus blood and His alone. For ‘tis the cross where Jesus died
That was fulfillment of God’s plan
To bring to earth His only Son
As substitute for sinful man.
