Topic: Risk (05/17/12)
A sadness overwhelms me
As I look into the smoke.
A lump of fear caught in my mind
Causes my heart to choke.

Is there any answer
To this fearful cry?
An emptiness fills my soul
Tears fall from my eyes.

The darkness that surrounds me
Takes my breath away.
Silent echoes down the hall
I’m lost to what to say.

Pain is the background
That’s devouring my soul.
Covered with the dirt of time
Trapped inside this hole.

Can You hear my screams of pain
That last with every try?
Help me stop rejection
That stares me in the eye.

I cannot seem to get things right.
You turned and walked away.
“I have no more time for You”
Is what I hear You say.

Death is sneaking up on me
It caught me unaware.
The only thing that keeps me alive
Is knowing that You care.

Now I am just drifting
Into the clouds of time.
All the things I’ve done so wrong
Are standing in a line.

Please don’t punish someone
For what I always do.
Don’t take that joy away
A gift I got from You.

I hear a solution
A choice I have to make.
I’ll risk all the things I have
Hoping my heart won’t break.

But I really trust You
I know You are the One.
I will bow before You
And say thy will be done.

Please give me the strength
For the risk I have to try.
I’m trusting You won’t let me down
Please hold me in Your eye.

So once more I come to You
I’m laying out my heart.
Tell me You won’t abandon me
In my life You’ll be a part.

My sadness is finally lifted
You’ve pulled me from the sea.
There’re no more questions to be asked
You’ve touched me now I’m free.

This poem really touched my heart. It easily could have been apiece that I wrote. The darkness is such a scary place to be in. My heart hurts for the MC. I know how easily is can be to slip from the light and back into the darkness. I want to reach through the screen and hug the MC and let the person know they are not alone. I'm here and understand that agony and am praying.

Powerful and gripping piece with a bundle of emotions soaring non stop. Excellent job of bringing the topic to life. My heart was with the MC all the way through.

You've done an excellent job helping us to feel your MC's pain and hope. Truly, Jesus is the only One Who can ever be trusted with our hearts fully; all else are humanly flawed, no matter how badly they want to do what is right. Jesus heals, comforts, and accepts us as we are. His hand lifts us up out of the darkness and into His hope. Thanks for sharing this powerful piece.
