S. Well, no. But I copied you on everything I’ve been doing.
G. I saw that.
S. And I posted tweets, when I needed help.
G. I saw those.
S. You were really a support and a comfort when my mother died.
G. I could have done more.
S. No, no, really...
G. I could have given you the words you regret not saying...
S. Oh, I’m sure she knew how I felt.
G. If you had asked.
S. You know, I’ve just become aware that your Son has a Face Book page! I notice He has lots of friends but He never responds to posts. Why is that?
G. Our marketing department insisted on creating an online presence for my Son, but if you want face time with Him, I’m afraid you are going to have to look elsewhere.
S. Where?
G. Let’s talk about your heart.
S. Oh, I have no health issues that interfere with my work.
G. Actually, you do. Has your heart been in the right place this past year?
S. What do you mean?
G. How many times last year did you check in with me to see if your work was aligned with my work?
S. I was very busy helping my mother die! Honor thy father and thy mother??? That’s not what you expect of me?
G. Do you remember the lady that came to visit your mother? The woman you turned away?
S. You can’t blame me for that. I was tending to my dying mother! I didn’t have the strength to deal with someone else’s pain.
G. But I did. That’s what I’m here for. Child, I’m not blaming you. I’m pointing out that when you take the entire burden upon yourself, you wear yourself out and I can’t use you to comfort others.
S. You expected me to comfort a stranger when my mother was dying?
G. I hoped that you and I were close enough that you would allow me to comfort all of you.
S. I don’t know how to do that.
G. Now we’re getting somewhere. Let’s put that on your development plan, shall we?
S. What, exactly?
G. I want you to spend some time with Me this year. Set aside time to tell Me about your work and let’s see what I can do to bring things to your attention that will make you a more effective worker for my Kingdom.
S. So, you aren’t going to fire me?
G. That’s exactly what I’m going to do. Spend a little more time listening to me and I will set your heart on fire with the passion and purpose you have always desired.
S. Wow. Thank you, Lord.
