Stacy went shopping for some new clothes but not for the typical reason a teenage girl goes for. Stacy needed bigger, frumpier clothes. Her belly was starting to pop-out and she desperately wanted to hide it from her friends and family. Brad, her ex-boyfriend, was no longer interested in her and his promise of love was merely words to get her to have sex with him. Brad was angry with for not going to the clinic to “take care of it,” but even though Stacey did not want to be pregnant, she knew in her heart the killing her baby was wrong. Stacy felt so confused, alone and unloved and for now all she could do was hide. There was no escape.
Tina was turning 40 in 2 months, the responsibility of raising her three daughters, Amanda 8, Katie 11 and Samantha 14 was starting to take its toll. Tina knew that most men go through mid-life crisis in their forties but she never imagined she would be the one that wanted something else…something more. The thought of doing one more load of laundry or carting one more child to one more activity was more than she could bear. Rich, her husband, was always working and even though she loved him she wondered if love was enough. Tina often found herself dreaming about the past, “What happened to the young, inspiring writer that she had hoped to be?” Somehow she had lost herself and longed to get in the car and just keep on driving and never stop. The voices in her head were begging her to “Run Tina Run!” There was no escape.
These three individuals all have one thing in common; they are trying to escape from something. Steven wanted to escape from his boring, married life and experience some excitement. Stacy wanted to escape from her pregnancy by hiding it and Tina wanted to escape from the stresses of raising a family. Trying to escape from our circumstances by covering up, hiding or running is not the solution. The only true freedom is in Christ. Escape to Him by reading His Word. The Bible states in 2 Corinthians 3:17, (The NIV Study Bible) “Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.” Find comfort in His embrace and the circumstances that seemed so overwhelming will now have hope. Sin is a prison and Jesus is the KEY! Unlock those bars and Escape to Him where there is peace, joy, and love.
