So sublime.
It used to be,
We remembered Thee.
Times have changed,
What a shame.
Now it seems,
We must have things,
To make us happy,
Instead, we’re crabby.
Time to shop
Until we drop.
Much to do,
So little time too.
Neon flashing,
People dashing.
Signs say “Buy”
I want to cry.
Billboards fling,
All that bling.
Gifts are nice,
But at what price?
Do we need
All that greed?
Don’t have money?
Charge it, Honey.
China made,
The price gets paid.
“Junk you say?
Please go away.”
It’s all I found,
It’s the thought that counts.
“Merry Christmas” gone,
“Happy Holidays” we don
There must be
I say to me,
Another reason
For the Season.
From nearby shops
I see the top
Of a church.
I begin my search.
I draw near
And I hear,
Silent Night
Holy Night
Quickly now
I don’t know how,
I reach the church
I end my search.
The Church did place,
A sign of Grace,
In the glass,
For all who pass.
Nothing loud
Small, but proud.
A humble sign
For Christmastime
The poster shouts,
“How about…
You listen to
The story that was meant for you.
No worldly version,
Or perversion.”
A special view
Of what’s really true.
All around,
Come hear the sounds.
The Church is lit,
Come in and sit.
Hear the story,
See the Glory.”
I find my seat,
A safe retreat.
From all that shopping,
That kept me hopping.
“Remember Me?”
I hear the plea.
“Yes I do.
I remember you.
Jesus born
On Christmas morn.
You came to die
So that I
Will see
Eternity.
The gift you brought
Can’t be bought.
Thank you for reminding me.
Christmas is meant spend with Thee.”
