I forget to eat, go to the next meeting. Rush, rush, rush. Run to the bathroom, throw up what I didn’t eat, and tell myself I am just fine. Rush, rush, rush, I have a plane to catch.
The phone rings. It’s another person asking for more of my time, more of my money, more of me. Give, give, give. It sometimes feels like I have nothing left. My car breaks down, they need to replace the radiator. One hundred dollars. Give, give, give.
The ceiling rushes over my head. Fast, fast, fast. I am being wheeled on some kind of trolley. Hear voices, feel nauseous. “Get her to the operating room, stat!” Fast, fast, fast…
I wake up to the sound of a machine next to my bed. Beep, beep, beep.
I know I need to slow down. Beep, beep, beep.
My body has sounded the alarm.
I walk out the hospital room with new resolve. I step barefoot onto the green grass outside. Take in the beauty around me. Breathe in the fresh air. I walk and walk, not knowing where my legs will take me.
I book myself off for three weeks,
Peace.
I sleep for most of that time,
Peace.
I open my eyes and I am in His arms,
Peace.
