Are you hot or cold for your current job? If you are hot for your job, you wake up every morning ready to go and to do what you were hired to do. When you arrive at work, you go in, prepare for the day, and get to work. You take few breaks because you really enjoy the atmosphere and the tempo you set as you work throughout your day. At the end of the workday, you set things up so that when you come in the next day, you will have to take little time for preparation; you can just get to work.
On the other hand, if you are cold for your job, you throw the alarm clock at the nearest wall to shut it up. In your heart of hearts, you hope you left the silly thing on and it’s actually Saturday morning. When you arrive for work, you spend as much time doing everything else but your job: checking your emails, getting coffee, talking to your work buddies, watching the clock, etc.
In the workplace, supervisors have a tendency of knowing who is hot for his or her job and who is not. Those who are hot get promotions or raises/bonuses; those who are not are left behind.
How about personal relationships? I have had relationships, associations, if you will, with some folks that I was neither hot nor cold with. I could really have cared less if we spent time together or not. The individuals were not at the top of my chart so it really didn’t matter if I saw him or her frequently or sporadically. However, if I had a hot or cold relationship with an individual, I was either always with the person or not.
God wants to know where He stands with us and where we stand with Him. Is you is or is you ain’t with Him? Revelation 3:15 – 16 (KJV) warns us: I know thy works, that thou art neither cold nor hot: I would thou wert cold or hot. So then because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spew thee out of My mouth.
And so it is in Christianity. God looks for those who are hot towards Him so that He can use those people. A person who is hot for God will go and do those things that may seem crazy to the world. But, this person doesn’t care because he or she loves the Lord and wants to be found doing those things when Jesus returns for His Bride. Promotions, raises and bonuses will come this person’s way as he or she seeks to please God.
Those who are lukewarm may or may not do what the Lord has called him or her to do. But, as we saw in the above scripture, God doesn’t want lukewarm. He will spit this person out of His mouth as something distasteful.
And, the person who is cold, well, God knows that this person is not going to do anything for Him and therefore does not expect anything from the cold person. No promotion, raise or bonus for this person. He or she will be left behind.
God wants us to be either hot or cold; both temperatures are easy to judge. So, the question is, “Is you is (hot) or is you ain’t (cold)… Not just with Christianity; with everything. After all, God knows.
