“That’s a good question, Anthony. I suppose it’s because the humans are celebrating Christmas. There is a lot of hype they have built up over the years regarding the Christmas season. They call those lights ‘Christmas lights.’ I think it’s their way of being festive. You will notice that some people have more lights on their houses than others. I think they’re either trying to outdo their neighbors or maybe they just like a lot of lights!” He finished with a chuckle.
“Hey, look at that house, Gabriel! Those humans have the cross in lights on their roof.”
“Yes, that family knows Jesus and they are letting the world know by putting the cross up there. It shows that they know the real meaning of Christmas.”
“And that’s that Christ went down to earth to take on human form, grow to be a man, go to the cross and take on the sins of humankind… that’s something I’ll never be able to comprehend, Gabriel.”
“Me either, Anthony. I want to tell you something though.
The lights you see now are pretty and nice to look at, but do you remember what it was like the night Christ was born and the light of the Star that shown so bright above the stable where Jesus lay in a manger?”
“Oh yes! That was some night wasn’t it? And when we appeared to the shepherds heralding the Savior’s birth, we were shining bright with the glory of God as we declared, ‘Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, goodwill toward men!’ Gabriel, that was one of the most exciting nights of my life! Oh what a wonder it was! Why, the light we shone forth, puts those ‘Christmas lights’ on earth to shame, doesn’t it?
Gabriel laughed with delight at Anthony’s excitement. “You’re right, Anthony, it does.”
“Let’s go down there now; all of us angels and show them what Christmas lights really are! Maybe then man would turn from the hype of Christmas and see Jesus. Jesus, who shines brighter, even, then all of us angels put together! Wouldn’t that be cool?”
“It would, Anthony, indeed it would, but that’s not for us to do…”
“Oh. Yeah. I guess I got a little carried away with remembering the night of Christ’s birth. I know it’s the Holy Spirit’s job to draw men to Jesus. I wish we could shine the light though, so people would stop being so stubborn and see.
“I know, Anthony. I know. Let’s you and me remember the job God gives us to prompt people to pray. As we do, more people will see the Light of the world and come to Him.”
“Yes, Gabriel, let’s! I want people to read about Jesus in the Bible and grasp the true meaning of Christmas – not just the people in the house that has the Cross on it, but all people of the world.”
“Good for you, Anthony. Back to work.”
The people in the house with the lighted cross on their roof began praying in earnest for the members of their family who didn’t yet know Jesus.
