Topic: Shopping (03/01/07)
Recently on a trip to Israel, I came across a small boy who I will never forget. We were on our way to Jericho when we stopped by the side of the road for a quick "photo op." Suddenly, I saw a young boy running down a short dirt road. I, along with my fellow pilgrims, continued taking pictures of a monastery set on the desert mountainside. The boy stopped upon reaching our group and went from one person to the other saying, "A dollar please." The look on his face was one of pity and sorrow. He, along with his family, are Bedouins. Suddenly his father came along with necklaces on his arm; he started selling them to our group members. These people still live in a primitive style with very little to eat.
We are so blessed; we do not realize how God good is to us. This trip was a moving experience for me and for others in the group. I will never forget this little boy. My heart goes out to him. He is a lesson to me of mercy and kindness towards my fellow man.

It is so sad to see children begging and it is a reminder that God still has work for us to do. Keep writing!

You are so right. We live in such a blessed country and time. Very well written. Short and to the point. You could have expanded it with the other pilgram's feelings, the father's interaction, whether he received a dollar or not. They would have been nice to hear but the main lesson/message may have been diluted. God bless and keep writing.
