Who send their men to war
And know that when they say good-by,
They may see them no more.
I sing of wives whose husbands go
To countries far away,
Who pray and wait and bide their time
And watch for word each day.
I sing of sisters left behind
By brothers sent to fight
To protect our nation’s freedom
With courage and with might.
I sing of mothers with loved sons
Who leave their family
To make their way to war-torn lands
To set those nations free.
I sing of daughters whose dads leave.
They miss their loving care.
There is no one to take their place
To be found anywhere.
I sing of women everywhere
As Milton once did state
In words so true, “They also serve
Who only stand and wait.”
I sing of women yet unsung
Who send their men to war
And know that when they say good-by,
They may see them no more

I'd like to read the companion poem some day, too--about men and boys who have wives, mothers, and daughters serving the country!
Very nice poem.
