A table set with dishes
Of every variety,
From delectable to bitter.
The appetizers are just
The beginning of all
That is to follow:
From first day of school
To graduation,
From first day on the job
To a lifetime of work,
From first day of marriage
To parenthood,
From first day of retirement
To the day of eternal life,
As well as all the pleasures
And the pain that lie between.
The drink is Living Water,
Relationship with God,
Necessary for survival
Of the soul.
The relish of the feast of life
Is a plethora of blessings:
Goals achieved,
Holidays spent with loved ones,
Happy surprises,
Quiet moments with a spouse,
Holding children
And later, grandchildren,
Leisure time activities,
Music and entertainment,
Creative endeavors,
And enjoyment of God’s gifts
Of beauty in nature.
Desserts are the sweetness
And the joy
Of love in life:
God’s love for us
And our love for Him,
The love for church
And for fellow Christians,
The love for home,
And not least of all,
The love for family—
Parents, siblings,
Spouse, children,
Grandchildren,
And other relatives,
Along with love
For good and faithful friends.
