“I’m getting ‘burnt out’!! ’” she muttered to herself as she got into her car...
“Hey Tom,” she said, sighing deeply as he walked into their beautiful home.
“Oh babe, I'm glad you're home! Come on, put your feet up and chill! Dinner’s almost ready. Tell me about your day!”. He said as he embraced her tired body.
One hour later, she was asleep.
In addition, Tom had made her a cup of tea; chamomile, hyssop, Ignatia, lemon balm, and lavender. The mixture helped her relax, and induced calm and rest.
As the Bible says, God rested too.
He worked relentlessly for 6 days and on the seventh day, He rested! He ‘took it easy’ for a day and stopped working. {Genesis 2:2-3}.
God created herbs in those six days, He knew they would help us to rest from our stress-filled lives. He made us to work and He made us to rest. There has to be a balance, though.
In our modern-day lives, we live, drive, eat, and think quickly.. The clock, the work ethic, and the forty-hour workweek determine our schedules. Cars and highways are designed for fast driving. Fast food restaurants are on every street, and computers are rated for their speed. Life can be seen as a grind.
Look at Our Creator, Jehovah-Bara!
“Do you not know? Have you not heard? The Lord is the everlasting God, The Creator of the ends of the earth. He will not grow tired or weary, and his understanding no one can fathom” [Isaiah 40:28]. Despite those abilities, He rested..
Yvette’s times of chilling are vital to her good health and soundness of mind.
In general, healthy ways to relax include music, reading, praying with others, and indulging in creative hobbies like knitting, crocheting or sewing, sleeping, and sports. Active and passive ways apply, such as going for a walk outside, or passive, such as taking 10 minutes to sit down and breathe deeply. Rest reduces stress, improves mood, and lowers blood pressure.
Conversely, activities like watching violent movies, playing internet games, and gambling are not healthy or conducive to relaxation. Even the foods and beverages we consume influence our physical and mental rest. For example, coffee is a stimulant whereas herbal teas can be soothing. Consider the option of Coca-Cola, filled with sugar and caffeine versus natural fruit juices.
Spending time alone with God in a quiet setting is strongly advised. “My eyes stay open through the watches of the night, that I may meditate on your promises”. [Psalm 119:148}. Follow our Creator’s example. Humans need to rest. Rest is restorative to mind and body They are restored, if narcotics are not involved.
