Yes, this is so true. A child learn to distrust others when promises are broken.
I would have liked to have read an specific example of this, to show what you are talking about.
Thanks for writing this. Keep it up.
I think this message has potential for becoming a publishable devotional. Beginning with a specific example of a broken promise would spark interest, if you demonstrate how a reason or an excuse can lead someone to the discouraging, wrong, conclusion that maybe God is all talk and no action. What about reversing the order and messages of the last two paragraphs? That would allow the reader to leave the devotional with eyes upon God rather than self. Something to think about. . .

Empty promises are painful. Your suggestion that our empty promises to God cause Him pain was thought provoking.

Sounds like you've been the recipient of empty words! Examples would have added oomph to the article. Good topic.
This has so many powerful points and things I think some parents somewhere along the line forgot to teach their kids. It makes me sad, but your story also has hope in Jesus Christ. One thing I would encourage you to look into is voice, perspective, and POV. These can be hard concepts to understand at first, but after practice and reading and commenting on other entries, it becomes easier. A FW member wrote an excellent book several years ago that really helped me understand these concepts. I see that you are a gold member right now. I'm not sure if you took advantage of reciving one of the free ebooks from FW authors when you became a gold member, but one of the choices is the very book I speak about Bring Your Writing to Life. by Amy Wiley. If you chose another book, you might want to consider upgrading to platinum membership. Not only are you eligible for all three books, but you can also have the be a better Christian writer in six-months, money-back guarantee (provided you follow all of the directions). This link will explain the membership perks and also shows you the book I mentioned: https://www.faithwriters.com/finish-signup.php
You need to scroll down some to see it all. The free books alone are worth the membership fees. I agree that with some editing and adding Bible verses and perhaps a prayer, this would make an excellent devotion. If you ever decide to go that route and need some help, feel free to PM me, and I'll do my best to help you with the things I mentioned. I think you've a wonderful foundation upon which to build.
