Red skies can have different meanings depending on the time of day. Each sky is red but because one is in the morning and one is in the evening it can mean different things. Colors can have many meanings depending on one’s environment and what one is accustomed to.
Red can be used in names of commercial items such as Red Bull, a popular energy drink, connoting energy and strength as in the power of a bull. Red is the color of blood, such as the holy blood of Jesus. Red can be the color of dominance and arrogance. Red is used in the names of books, “The Red Badge of Courageâ€. Red is a color of patriotism such as red flags. The American flag is red, white, and blue. Red is a color of life. Red is noticeable, more so than green or blue. Many years ago a factory made red wagons and they were a popular child’s toy. Many grown-ups today remember the red wagons because they were so popular.
The color red has been studied for psychological uses. It has been determined that sport teams that wear red have a slightly higher chance of winning. When someone gets angry they sometimes say, “I see red.â€
Everyone loves a red rose. It is a passionate flower of romance. Red is the color of life and sex and has many connotations. Women put on red lipstick hoping to extenuate their beauty.
A red flag can signify a battle call, such as in in the United States confederate Army. A cry for strength and courage. The British army years ago wore red uniforms into battle. Unfortunately, for many, red is a bright color and makes for an easy target. The color of red has been studied and there has been many articles written on the color.
I accept red as a color and I accept that red can alter the mood of somebody as the color blue. When someone thinks of blue or blues music they think of a somber heavy tune that brings the soul up and makes one feel the music. Red is not like that.
I feel red is a color of life and we can respond by engaging in life with enthusiasm. Doing the will of God is a well lived life. Jesus shed his red blood for us and we can be eternally grateful for that. He shed red blood to signify that he is God in human form. Whenever we celebrate the Eucharist we drink wine signifying Jesus’ blood.
