TITLE: Glitter and Cookie Crumbs | Writing Challenge

Sticky handprints on the walls, muddy footprints on the floor, dirty clothes in the hamper; humans leave obvious evidence that they have passed through. Home decorator stores sell little signs with whimsical scripts like, "Wherever you go, leave a little glitter behind." The glitter might get changed to "angel dust," "the aroma of coffee," or maybe even "sunshine" to represent different personalities. The phrases aren't Biblical, but the concept is. Our interactions with others leave a little bit of our presence in their lives. The bit can be as simple as a friendly greeting or as impactful as committed mentoring. Following Hansel and Gretel's practice, we can drop cookie crumbs (encouragement and spiritual wisdom) on the trail of life that become a sweet roadmap to those who are lost.

Much as acquaintances associate our presence with a familiar waft of our signature perfume, we can put forth a fragrance of the knowledge of Him (Cor 2:14 ESV). Even though we are imperfect at best, we can still be identified as His because of His lovely fragrance, which clings to us. That alluring scent will linger on others long after we embrace them with love and compassion.

Our Lord Jesus left portions of himself in the words he spoke and the miracles He performed as he journeyed throughout the Holy Land, interacting with individuals and crowds. He deposited Himself in their lives, becoming a promissory note of the full amount to be paid. This left some wanting more of Him, wanting more of His love and presence. Perversely, it left others angry and offended, refusing to see the value of what Christ offered for them.

And then He went to the Cross-intentionally, with a heart of pure love and forgiveness. He was the substitutionary payment for our accumulated sin debt, not offering to be collateral nor a down payment, but rather a final settling of our account. The only caveat on the contract is that we believe in the truth of His person, confess our sins, and accept His gift of a paid-in-full voucher as our passage into heaven
