Life has a way of throwing us into unexpected situations, shaping us in ways we could never predict. Looking back on my journey, I see how every experience—no matter how difficult or seemingly insignificant—has been part of God’s divine plan to mold and refine me. These moments have taught me resilience, faith, and the importance of perseverance. I want to share some key lessons I’ve learned along the way, hoping they inspire you to embrace your own journey with courage and faith.

 Your Past Doesn't Define Your Future

Growing up, stability was a rare commodity. My childhood was marked by transitions—living with my great-grandmother, then my aunt and uncle, and navigating the challenges of different schools. Yet, in every phase, I found moments of clarity and growth. My great-grandmother taught me the value of stability and discipline, while my aunt and uncle instilled in me the importance of hard work and responsibility.

If there’s one thing I’ve learned, it’s that where you start in life doesn’t dictate where you’ll end up. Your past is a chapter, not the whole story. Use it as a foundation to build something greater.

 Challenges Build Character

When I enlisted in the Marine Corps Reserve, I had no idea how much it would test my physical and mental limits. Boot camp was grueling, filled with moments where I wanted to give up. I’ll never forget the time I left the safety flag out of my M-16 rifle, earning a punishment that pushed me to my breaking point. But those moments of discipline taught me resilience and the power of perseverance.

Life will test you in ways you never imagined, but every challenge is an opportunity to grow stronger. Don’t shy away from adversity—embrace it, learn from it, and let it sharpen you into the person you’re meant to be.

 Success Requires Preparation

In high school, I once joined a 440-yard dash without any preparation. I started strong, but by the end, I was dead last. That moment taught me a valuable lesson: talent and enthusiasm can only take you so far. Preparation, discipline, and consistency are what set the winners apart.

This lesson became even more evident during my entrepreneurial journey. In 2001, I started a business that thrived for years. But when the 2008 recession hit, I realized I had relied too heavily on a single strategy. It was a painful but necessary wake-up call to diversify and think long-term. Preparation and adaptability are key ingredients for lasting success.

 Humility and Faith Open New Doors

Losing my townhouse in 2011 was one of the lowest points of my life. It felt like everything I had worked for was crumbling. But it was also the turning point that brought me back to God. Standing at my great-grandmother’s gravesite, I broke down, repented, and asked for God’s guidance. That moment of humility was the start of a new chapter, one that led me to street preaching and sharing the Gospel.

Sometimes, it’s in our moments of greatest vulnerability that we find the clarity and strength to move forward. Don’t be afraid to humble yourself, admit your mistakes, and ask for help—whether from God or those around you.

 Use Your Experiences to Help Others

The struggles I faced—whether in foster care, the Marine Corps, or entrepreneurship—weren’t just for me. They were lessons meant to be shared. Today, I use my story to inspire others, particularly young people, to see the value in perseverance and faith. Whether I’m preaching on the streets or speaking to a group, my goal is to remind people that they’re not alone and that God has a purpose for their lives.

Your experiences, no matter how painful, can be a source of hope for someone else. Don’t keep them to yourself. Share your story and let your testimony be a light for others.

 God’s Grace Is Sufficient

Through it all, one truth has remained constant: God’s grace is sufficient. Whether I was running away from shelter homes as a frustrated teenager or rebuilding my life after financial loss, God’s hand was always guiding me. His grace has been my strength in weakness and my comfort in trials.

Whatever you’re facing today, remember that you’re not alone. Lean on God, trust His plan, and keep moving forward. Life’s journey isn’t always easy, but it’s in the struggles that we find our purpose.

In the end, it’s not about the obstacles we face but how we choose to overcome them. Your story matters. Embrace your journey, learn from your experiences, and let your life be a testament to God’s power and faithfulness.
