At this, those who heard began to go away one at a time, the older ones first, until only Jesus was left, with the woman still standing there. John 8:9 NIV

It is interesting that the comment of Jesus was powerful enough that each of the accusers left without casting a stone at the woman. So if they were willing to admit to themselves and to those who were there that they were all sinners, why would not they accept the invitation from the one who was given authority to forgive sins? Even though they were forced to admit that they were sinners they were not willing to turn away from their sinfulness in order to be saved. Such a tragedy.

May we always humble ourselves before the Lord and let Him know that we realize our sinful nature and needing His saving grace. If we approach Him with a humble and contrite heart He is willing to forgive us and restore us unto Himself.
