Oh ruined sinner, ruined at last
thy carnal corruption ghastly exposed
The Righteous law did work a big blast
the Divine sentence is justly imposed.

And the law hath digged a very deep grave
laying us naked in the dust
no viler sinner could he be, save
he who hath made the law his trust.

But the blind and proud will not receive
the reproofs of instruction from saints like me
These almost Christians who come to believe
their carnal misunderstandings of theology.

These deluded souls will not heed the truth
from those with frailties and faults they perceive.
These therefore justify their smug reproof
and choose for friends who will deceive.

Now hear the Gospel one and all
the good news that came after the fall.

The Gospel is that God hath chosen
sinners freely by His grace
this sovereign work has been imparted
to those alone with saddened face,
whose sins have been pardoned by redemption brought nigh
who have mourned not a little because for their sins they cry.
