Let's discuss a little bit about attitudes about ourselves. One of the major areas of conflict in individuals is that of having wrong attitudes about ourselves and these wrong attitudes present conflict in our life and in every dimension in every relationship.

Polls have been done and conducted on people who were considered very very attractive by their peers and yet these indivuduals who were considered attractive were asked if they were satisfied with their basic appearance. A high percentage of them were not.

Have you ever thought that by looking in the mirror (if you consider yourself unattractive or even ugly) and thought maybe if this is the best God can do then I just can't trust him for my future. I mean if this is an example of God's love I'd hate to see an example of his anger. This wrong attitude by the way comes from measuring ourselves with the outward standards of those around us.

The Bible says in ll Corinthians 10:12 "For we dare not make ourselves of the number, or compare ourselves with some that commend themselves; but they measuring themselves by themselves, and comparing themselves among themselves, are not wise." We are not wise in comparing ourselves with others because other people are not the standard by which we are to compare ourselves. Who is the standard? Jesus Christ.

We are to compare ourselves to the inward character of Jesus Christ in order to receive not man's approval but God's approval.

What does John 5:44 say? "How can ye believe which receive honor one of another and seek not the honor that cometh of God only. And again in ll Corinthinians 10:17,18 "But he that glorieth, let him glory in the Lord. For not he that commendeth himself is approved, but whom the Lord commendeth.

So we can take our appearance, our abilities, our parental background and our environment and we can either develop correct thoughts and attitudes or we can develop wrong thoughts and attitudes.
