“Welcome.”
The new born looked around, eyes wide, glowing brightly.
“What am I? Where am I? And who am I?”
God’s laughter delighted the heavens. “You are an angelic being, in my heavenly work room. Your name …Curious… a suitable nomenclature.”
“Are you my creator?”
“Yes.”
“I thought so because I love you so much already.” The tiny being flew around God gushing with light.
“I love you too, Curious.”
“Do we live together, Father?”
“Not yet, little one. You must sprout before you reach my zenith. But, I promise, when you are fully developed, you will reside with me, for all eternity, in the pinnacle of my Throne Room.”
“How wonderful!” Curious exclaimed.
“Until then, Proctor shall guide you.”
As God vanished, Proctor appeared. He was a robust angel standing over nine feet tall, with pink lips and long golden locks. He stood authoritatively with his hands on his hips. Curious flew straight up to his eyeballs causing Proctor to go cross-eyed.
“Curious, back up a bit please.”
“You sure are a biggun’. But not as large as my father!”
“That’s correct. Our father is superior to anyone.”
“Our father? He is your father too?”
“Yes, Curious. He is everyone’s father.”
“Then, you are my brother?”
“Yes, indeed. I am your sibling and your guide.”
“My guide? Am I going somewhere?”
“Curious, you are a special angel, made to grow like a beautiful perennial flower. I shall teach you every inch of your upward spiral.”
“Is it hard? Is the spiral scary?” Curious flitted about like a worried bee.
“Slow up, Curious,” said Proctor as he pinched the tips of Curious’ wings stopping him in midair. Father sure made you full of questions. How about I give you an overview of the hierarchy of angels? I’ll start at the bottom and explain upward.”
“Oh, yes, at the zenith where God lives in the Throne Room; Father told me.”
“Ah, yes. Exactly. As I was saying, the bottom level consists of spheres.” He released Curious and motioned for him to follow.
“The first sphere intervenes with humans on earth. They are called Messengers and Guardians.”
“I feel like I belong there, Proctor.”
“Yes, you do, for now, Curious. But God wants you to fully understand all the levels.”
“When you evolve enough, we will visit the next level of Archangels, who provide humans with understanding of God’s will. They enlighten and strengthen faith and reveal prophecies. You will meet Gabriel and Michael there.”
“When I deem you ready, we’ll ascend to the third sphere of Principalities who wear crowns and carry scepters. They bestow blessings and favors upon various groups on Earth, inspiring the arts and sciences-- And carry out orders of the Dominions above them.
“Then, we’ll ascend to the Powers who bear conscience in the fourth sphere. They distribute power among human kind and keep historical records. Up at the fifth sphere, you’ll meet the Virtues, or workhorses, of the angelic realm. They possess strength to maintain the physical universe keeping order among the cosmos.”
Curious seemed ready to explode. “Surely, we couldn’t go any higher?”
“But indeed we do. The sixth realm consists of the purified and enlightened Dominions. They rule the lower angels as well as preside over nations. Orbs of light seem fastened to their heads and they look like beautiful human beings, not like angels at all.”
“Oh my. What then?” Curious drank in knowledge like a living encyclopedia.
“We reach the Thrones whose primary function is to fulfill the divine justice of God. They are pure and commune with the son of God.”
“Surely, that must be the zenith of Heaven, Proctor.”
“Not quite. The knowledgeable realm of Cherubim exists next. They removed man from the garden and announced the birth of Christ.”
“Oh, yes, they must be powerful. Any more levels until we reach the zenith?”
“Only one, Curious—the sphere of the tall, multi-winged Seraphim who surround the creator with their fiery light. They receive God’s revelations before all other angels and interpret them for us. When we arrive there, we must kneel immediately.”
“Oh, Proctor, I shall be so happy to see my father again.”
“Then, we must begin your training today, Curious. For though you start as a messenger, one day you will grow, evolve, ascend the levels, and reach the pinnacle of your creation. You will be Seraphim and reside with God for eternity.”
Curious crooned with a tiny, silken voice that filled the heavens, “Hallelujah.”
