Wonderful Counselor, hear my cry
i’ve forgotten You
as i stumble on this dismal byway
toward a dead end, an unknown finale
His holy whisper beckons return to the ancient paths
those well-worn paths the fathers trod
where echoes of prayer still cling to sacred air
and melodies of psalms leave the spirit calm
where the Word hence told renders the spirit bold
come find your way, dear one
along My ancient paths
yes!
meet me at the city gates, O Prince of Peace,
and together shall we stroll the ancient paths?
i will rest my face upon the mossy rock
and labor not
i will rest
until Your gentle wind doth caress
banishing despair
transforming
unto peacefulness
unlike the byways whence i came
can we amble along the leaf-strewn trail?
no thoughts of how i failed
by my calculatings and ponderings
fruitless wanderings
along the byways whence i came
can we silently saunter the footpaths
of those who’ve gone before?
will You escort me, Mighty God, as all the saints of yore?
lead me to quiet waters
that i may gaze and rest
from dusty roads and heavy loads
that put me to the test
so weary am i now, Lord,
from my daunting quest
please transport me from this quandary
cleanse and make me holy
‘neath the waters by the footpath
far from the byways whence i came
my Eternal Father
just your beloved child
who lost her way one day upon the byways whence i came
Your path i’ve found, now i know
shall we journey? shall we go?
His holy whisper beckons return to ancient paths
those well-worn paths the fathers trod
where echoes of prayer still cling to sacred air
and melodies of psalms leave the spirit calm
where the Word hence told renders the spirit bold
come find your way, dear one
along My ancient paths
