Trying to avoid,
The wisdom that lurks here.
Folks declare 'history doesn't repeat itself'
And yet, through my own eyes,
I see it happening
People killing people
All over something silly
Whether it be a skin color, a race, or a religion
Genocides repeating
Circular motions
While the past eras all scream...
STOP AND LISTEN!
What stops us from pausing?
To take a breath,
To cool our fiery tempers
What stops us from listening?
To hear what is being alleged--
And maybe work out the differences
What stops us from thinking?
To consider the outcomes
The ones that will impact eras that is to come.
After all,
We are shaping their world
Their voices add to the outcry
STOP AND LISTEN!
A girl is born
Destined to become a doctor
But her potential is never realized
Sold for a year's wages
Because she is from the wrong lineage
Only good for one thing—hard labor
A boy is born
Destined to lead his people
But he cannot
He is of the wrong creed
Orphaned and abandoned
Making due from day-to-day
STOP AND LISTEN!
Spoon fed hatred and revenge
It's their only way to survive
Unless, we listen to the era's past wisdom
So now
It is your turn, my friend
Are you listening?
Because you see
Our own future depends
On our listening skills
So take a moment
To stop and pay attention
To the world around you.
