We started the day early. A photo opportunity of casting our ballots and all that type of stuff. Then we made a few speeches, and finally we sat down to watch the results come in. Early results were iffy. It could have gone either way. But now? Well, now... I'm still in shock.
"Madam' President." That's going to take some getting used to. People questioned whether we could pull it off. Whether the U.S. was really ready for a female president. But now we've proven all the nay-sayers wrong.
Wow. Is it really true? Me? I'm still sitting here shaking my head in disbelief.
The most amazing thing to me, though, is that it's the people who made the choice... All of them. Not a select few with a feminist agenda, and not just the elite who feel we need to rise above gender roles. No, it was all the people. In fact, this election had one of the highest voter turnouts in U.S. history. Wow.
I wonder when this will really "hit home," so to speak? Probably not until inauguration day when I'm walking into my new home. Yeah, I'm pretty sure it will hit home then.
I suppose all the history textbook writers are busy as we speak, writing a new chapter of American history.
It should be really interesting to read the headlines in the morning. I wonder what they'll say about me?
I have such a legacy to follow, too. To think of all the great people who have held this position before me. I don't think I even want to try to mention any by name. Well, I mean there's Washington, of course. And Lincoln. Ford, Kennedy.... But so many more! Surely I will forget some if I continue.
I just hope I can live up to their legacy.
Well, I suppose it's just about time for some victory speeches. It's all in God's hands now. I know He'll get me through these next few years, and sustain me and comfort me.
I still can't believe it. I'm the first First Gentleman!
