Trees disrobing, quietly shedding
Colored garments all around
Rainbow carpets on the ground.
Winter shriveling, shivering, blowing
Muffled calmness, silent snowing
Across a glaring, subdued land
Whitened strokes of the Almighty’s hand.
Spring sprouting, budding, shooting
Wondrous scenes of life renewing
Frozen memories, harsh winters bring
Melted by the thoughts of Spring.
Summer, king of seasons dawning
On a crimson June-day morning
“ Is it really here, it seemed so long?
Oh yes: I hear the cuckoo’s song”.
July growing, heating, raining
Mother of the violet lightning
Birthing storms, where rains run free
To a turquoise blanket, on the deep purple sea.
July hiking, camping, joking
Outdoor cycling, swimming, boating
By camp fire embers, glowing bright
Sing praises long into the night.
July loving, kissing, singing
A bridegroom’s vows, solemnly taking
Bells peel loudly, from side to side
Enthusiastically proclaiming, a new summer bride.
August picnicking, drinking, so inviting
Mental images, indelible writing
Immortalized memories, we proudly show
On photograph, and video.
August going, coming, ice cream eating
Happy school breaks, never ending
Joyful children running free
On grassy slopes and next the sea.
August cutting, flowering, pruning
Blossoms falling, roses blooming
Fragrant posies, made just for her
Of wild field flowers and sweet lavender.
August longing, hoping, planning
Lying on grasses, surrendering, dreaming
Lifted up, to the clear azure sky
By shrill songbirds and orange butterfly.
September ripening, picking, weeping
Fields of barley, nearby reaping
Signs of carnage on the ground
Long whiskered heads lay all around.
September ending, fading, autumn starting
October mists, freezing, swirling
Like the final roll of a dying drummer
Comes unexpectedly, an ‘ Indian Summer’.
Winter, spring, summer, fall
Inexorable cycle, of God’s irresistible call
Summer’s ended, gone the warming rain
So great God’s love for us, he spins the wheel again.
