Topic: Purposefulness (Purpose in Life) (05/25/06)
Discovering one’s purpose for living seems to be the foremost quest in every individual’s life for one cannot find completeness without it. Personally, I believe the Bible clearly defines the purpose of every believer’s life and for that reason we might better concentrate on how to fulfill that purpose rather than debate what that purpose is.

In reading the book of Genesis, it seems that God created the earth and everything in it simply because He wanted to. After each day of creation “God saw that it was good.” Genesis 1:18,21,25. (KJV) He created the earth and everything in it for His glory and then He created man. I have a little theory about why he created man, but this is only my thoughts and ideas and not based on any specific verses. Did you ever see something absolutely breathtaking? Maybe you’ve seen a sunset or sunrise, a view from the top of a mountain. Perhaps you’ve seen a beautiful rainbow or an apple orchard in full bloom, still wet with the morning dew and the rays of sunshine dancing upon the blossoms creating prisms of light. If you’re anything like me, the first thing you want to do is share it with someone else. Something so beautiful isn’t nearly as exciting unless you have someone else to share the moment with. Considering the fact that man was created in God’s image it would be conceivable to assume that our feelings and emotions are similar to God’s. God saw all the beauty He had just created and He wanted to share it. He wanted someone else to enjoy the fruits of His work and in doing so it would magnify and glorify Him. That may or may not be how it all began, but regardless, the moment Eve sinned, everything changed.

After that first sin in the Garden of Eden, the bane of human existence changed forever. Man’s purpose in life changed. Sin overshadowed the glory of God’s creation. “And GOD saw that the wickedness of man [was] great in the earth, and [that] every imagination of the thoughts of his heart [was] only evil continually. And it repented the LORD that he had made man on the earth, and it grieved him at his heart. And the LORD said, I will destroy man whom I have created from the face of the earth; both man, and beast, and the creeping thing, and the fowls of the air; for it repenteth me that I have made them.” Genesis 6:5-7 (KJV) The great flood came and only Noah and his family were spared, but evil had already crept into the heart of man and it was there to stay. The rest of the Old Testament is a historical account and preparation for the redemption of man. The virgin birth of Jesus Christ, His death on the cross and His resurrection is the only salvation for the evil hearts of men.

At this point our purpose in life becomes sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ and the plan of salvation. All of us who are redeemed by the blood of Jesus should consider ourselves servants and disciples of the Lord Jesus Christ. “And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.” Mark 16:15 (KJV) Likewise, Matthew 9:37-38 says,” Then saith he unto his disciples, The harvest truly [is] plenteous, but the labourers [are] few; Pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he will send forth labourers into his harvest.” As disciples, our purpose for living is to live a Christ-like life and bring as many people to know Him and to accept His gift of salvation, as we possibly can in our lifetime.

God has blessed everyone with spiritual gifts of one kind of another that we can use as tools in sharing Christ with others. Attending church encourages one another in achieving our purpose. Daily living for Him is a great challenge, but undoubtedly our most effective means of witnessing to others. If we are faithful, active, consistent, disciples of Christ, we too will be able to proclaim “I have fought a good fight, I have finished [my] course, I have kept the faith: Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing.” 2 Timothy 4:7-8 (KJV)

The second paragraph was the best; telling about the beautiful things we see, and I liked the "idea" that perhaps God created Man so that He could share this beauty with others. However, the rest was a sermonette - which, for me was not exactly my cup of tea. Repetitious, as I am aware of what a Christian's purpose in life is - but for those who are not of the Christian faith...you did make some very good points...and nicely done.

Some great details and descriptions, but you lose that as you go into the study portiong. It's a very good study, and with a longer word count, you can bring more great images into the last part :)
