Rushing waves of colors wash from a heart into the fingertips and mind. A glorious feeling of wanting to express the hope that only God can give comes as in insistent voice. And so the solitary painter picks up his pencil and brush and joyfully mixes the paint. For what purpose does he do this? It is as an expression of a hammering need that only God can put into a human mind and hand. And on the canvas or paper, the colors mingle and a form becomes a reality. Peace comes from the finished expression. And the painting gives joy.
Words flow without bidding into the mind of the artist of the written paper. Again, a need forms to communicate a thought. The fingers feel the stirrings of a story, a poem, an essay, a devotional and they must respond. God takes the words and with it paints a picture for the reader of his love and interpretation that only this one blessed by his presence can sense. And the words give joy.
The notes echo in the head of the artist. Melodies of increasing crescendos of the intensity of the feelings are expressed by responding fingers. The melody moves from a lonely echo of minor and dissonant notes to the intertwining ropes of beautiful chords. A spirit soars. And the music gives joy.
A quiet whispered prayer asks for forgiveness for wrongs committed against the God of love. Tears flow unbidden. Cries of hurt are made known. Loneliness echoes a hurting heart. Suddenly, a responding soft brush of wind flows over the hurting soul. Love and forgiveness come washing over and comforting the torn life. And the answered prayer gives joy.
Joy? Joy? Where can this vital emotion be found? Only in and from the joy flowing from our eternal and loving God.
