Is it too much to suppose
Your tiny fingers, tiny toes
Were so small inside the womb
Where there was not a lot of room
Yet you grew into a boy
And brought to us a lot of joy
For nine months I carried you through
A time in life when I was blue
Off your father went to war
To fight a battle worth fighting for
On soldiers, sailors we depend
It is our country they defend
‘Twas so hard to say goodbye
So many nights that I would cry
It was only by God’s strength
That I could last for such a length
I was feeling so alone
Yet inside me you had grown
And just before you were born
Your dad came back as he had sworn
So he could be close by my side
To hear you, Son, when you first cried
Into this big world you came
Our little David is your name
The hard months past we soon forgot
For to you we gave all thought
Now we pray you God will bless
So to the world you will impress
In hopes in you His light will shine
Oh little baby boy of mine
