Locked out! No, this can’t be true thought the poor soul as he stood at the gate to heaven. His mind was spinning as he thought about all the times he had heard about the final judgment. Until now he had assumed that it was all a myth or some made up tail to scare people in to accepting religion. Even now he just couldn’t believe this was happening to him. Instead of falling down on his knees and asking God to accept him and forgive him his sins, he just stood there.
God in his wisdom knew that this day was in store for the poor soul and he wept to think that this soul was going to be lost. God gave all his children the power to choose the right path but some made bad decisions. God wanted this soul to be a part of his eternal kingdom and even yet there was time for the soul to ask for forgiveness.
As he stood there trembling he begin to review his life and he didn’t like what he was seeing. He remembered the many times he had cursed God and laughed at people who believed in God. He had made fun of people that attended Church and called them weak. Many times in his life he had cheated and stole things that didn’t belong to him. How about all the times he had been drinking and made lewd comments to women and had told jokes about God. As he reviewed all the mean and cruel things he had done to people for no reason he began to feel sorry about it. He was beginning to think that maybe he shouldn’t have talked so bad about God.
The poor soul reviewed all his life but in the end he just couldn’t bring himself to believe in God, not even now. With a little laugh he turned to the locked gate and said, “I guess I wont be able to come in after all. I could have fooled God and he would have let me in but I decided to go to hell instead. God gave me this choice and this is what I want. I bet the gate to hell isn’t locked and I bet I will be able to get in without asking or changing the way I am.”
The poor soul was right and off to hell he went where the gate was not locked. The forces of evil are always open to anyone that chooses to join them. What the poor soul didn’t think about was, once he made his choice there was no turning back.
The gate to heaven was never locked but in his misconception of faith he locked himself out. God didn’t want to loose another soul but he gives us all a chance to choose the right path, and sometimes we choose wrong. Don’t make the wrong choice and lock yourself out of Heaven.
