Sarah reassuringly takes her daughter’s hand, “I’ll be honest Kaelynn; remarrying your dad is one of the most difficult things God has ever asked me to do. The thing is, he has a plan, and a purpose for our lives and it’s always good.” Choking up, she continues, “In fact, God has been working a number of years to restore our family. Your dad and I have just been too stubborn to cooperate.”
Placing her hands on Kaelynn’s shoulders, Sarah looks her in the eyes, “Our best blessings come when we are obedient to God and forgive others as he has forgiven us. It took a long time for your dad and me to be able to do that.”
Pulling away from her mother, Kaelynn replies, “But you and dad really hurt each other. You haven’t been together for over fifteen years. Why is God working this out now?” As a tear slips down her cheek she asks, “Where was God when I was little and needed my parents together?”
Sarah clears her throat, “God was there all along Kaelynn, but he doesn’t control our actions; He gives us a free will. Unfortunately, your dad and I made poor choices that ended our marriage, and unfortunately, hurt you and your brothers.”
Embracing her mother in a hug once more, Kaelynn sniffles, “I am scared that you and dad are going to hurt each other again. I can’t bear to go through that a second time.”
They are interrupted by a knock at the door. “Are you guys ready?
“We’ll be right out Trevor,” Sarah announces to her youngest son.
Wiping away Kaelynn’s tears with a tissue, Sarah is honest with her daughter. “I can’t promise you that your dad and I won’t hurt each other again, but we both have a closer relationship with God now, and if we continue to put him first in our lives, and in our marriage, we won’t be as likely to let you down again.”
Kaelynn brightens, “We better go; dad is waiting.”
“Yes, I’ve kept him waiting way too long.” Sarah smiles as she takes her daughter’s hand, “Let’s go find your brothers.”

Broken Together, by Casting Crowns, plays as Kaelynn and her middle brother, Ben, walk down the aisle to take their places as Maid of Honor and Best Man.
Taking a deep breath, Sarah intertwines her arms with those of her oldest and youngest sons. They slowly lead their mother down the aisle toward their father.
As Sarah releases her sons’ arms, and faces her soon to be husband, she prays, “Lord, I trust you in this remarriage. Please keep Tom and me strong in our walk with you so that we will not hurt our children again. Let us be a testimony to the power of forgiveness.”
Pastor Brian instructs everyone to turn to Matthew 19:6. He reads, “So they are no longer two, but one flesh. Therefore what God has joined together, let no one separate.”
Addressing the onlookers, he continues, “Two becoming one flesh can be a difficult thing to understand so I would like to illustrate.”
He places a small table between Sarah and Tom; on it sits an empty glass pitcher and two glasses, one filled with blue Kool-Aid, and one with red Kool-Aid. Handing the blue Kool-Aid to Tom, he asks him to pour it into the pitcher. He then turns to Sarah and asks her to pour in the red Kool-Aid. Instantly, the liquid changes to purple.
Lifting the pitcher Pastor Brian shows everyone that it is no longer possible to tell the liquid was ever red or blue. Turning to Sarah and Tom, he asks them if they can pour the Kool-Aid back into their respective glasses so that it is blue and red again.
“It’s impossible isn’t it?” the pastor asks. They both nod in agreement.
“God’s intention for marriage is that two remain as one.” Gesturing toward the bride and groom, he continues, “However, in our humanness, sometimes we walk away from that commitment, as did Sarah and Tom. God hates divorce and he desires for relationships to be reconciled. When people are willing to forgive, this opens the door for God to restore broken relationships; even after many years.”
Turning to the bride and groom, he asks, “Are you two ready to be rejoined as one?”
