The competition was fierce, over10,000 people entered and it was now narrowed down to four.- Adrian, Barthemeus, Carmen and David. Adrain was eliminated.
The last three battled it out until Carmen won the first prize which was a family holiday cruise and decided going with all the members of his family
The family was poor and had never being on holidays, so this was a dream come true. Excitedly they started preparing to go. The cruise would last three months on the World’s best ocean liner-Paradise, which had a swimming pool, tennis court and each of them was to have a luxurious, self-contained well furnished room with bathroom and toilet facilities. They had special waiters assigned to each person and treated like kings and queens.
It was too much to take considering they had never been on holidays and what more, waited on hand and foot. They were so overwhelmed by the hospitality and the lavish surroundings that they started feeling homesick after one week. of having breakfast in bed.
On Paradise they met others who were used to going on cruises and had an air about them. .They snubbed the Cassidys;. did not like their mannerisms and thought they were like fishes out of the water. At one point they were dying to get to Haven, the promised port of call that was to be the icing on the cake. This would be their first foot on land after 11 weeks on the cruise. They looked forward to it with great anticipation. They were now fed up of Paradise; .now glorified hell.
. They could not wait to get to Haven. The organisers of the competition monitored their movements, enjoyments, regrets on Paradise and excitements about Haven. Adequate arrangements had been made in Haven to ensure it was a crowning jewel of the trip. Fun filled fanfares were lined up to make it feel like heaven on earth They only had three days to spend there in a five star hotel, .with $5000 spending money each This lit up their eyes again. None of them had handled such an amount at once. And they were to make sure that they spent every cent before returning home.
In the early hours of the morning they spotted Haven from afar. It literarily glittered like gold. ‘At last!, Carmen exclaimed, ‘we can now stretch our legs, breathe a new air, pop some champagnes’ They burst into spontaneous songs as they approached the port to disembark. They were reminded to ensure they had their passports ready for checking at the Immigration Control. They dug into their suit cases only to discover that they had left them behind. They became frantic. They had looked forward to Haven and now the dream was turning a nightmare. Colm (the dad), said he remembered handing them over to Catherine (mum), the day before they travelled. She promptly denied seeing them much less handling them. Carmen decided to have a thorough look. To their amazement he found them. What a relief!
At the immigration control they checked their passports thoroughly especially in the wake of terrorist strikes and attempted infiltration into Haven.
Could you believe it? Colm failed in spite of being the father of the family.
Catherine, in spite of her innocent look, wondered what had gone wrong when she was told to stand aside.
Carmen, who won the holiday trip in the first place, was sure that if anyone deserved to go into Haven, he was number 1. But this was not the case. He had questions to answer.
Cain, the baby of the family, thought if any one was innocent in the family it was he; but he was also told to stand aside.
Christian was cleared and let through, but he had mixed feeling, unsure of what was going to happen to the rest of the family.
Unfortunately Christiana and Comfort also failed the immigration control test.
And so in spite of all having passports and names beginning with C, only the C of Christian would do.
