To hold my hand and watch me grow, without him where I’d be I don’t know.
I can remember times as a small girl, standing on the fireplace hearth behind my Daddy’s (pronounced Deddy) recliner playing with his black curly hair. He would allow me and my younger sister, Kimberly, to put loads of hair bows into his hair. I think we even snuck up on him and took pictures of him. He and my brother did not stand a chance with six women in the house, including Mama. Five daughters mean five times the prom dresses, pageant gowns, and wedding costs and so on. Those were tough odds for anyone.
He ran more than one young fellow out of the yard who was interested in one of his daughters. You had to pass the test of his stern looks and curfews. What they did not know is that he is all teddy bear. He may growl sometimes, but almost never bites. He is protective of what is his, as is the case with any good father.
My Daddy is what I would call a “workaholic”. He does not know the meaning of quitting time. He did whatever it took to provide for his wife and children, even building a manufacturing facility from the ground up. With a brain like a computer, he knows no limitations. The best description of my Daddy is that he has the tenacity of a bulldog; he never gives up.
A man of integrity to the core, that is my Daddy. “In my integrity, You uphold me and set me in Your presence forever” (Ps 41:12). He is blessed of the Lord with a wonderful wife, six children and twenty-two grandchildren. He is also blessed with a prosperous business.
Our Daddies are the first image we have of knowing a relationship with Father in heaven. When I was a little girl, Daddy was Superman to me. He could do anything and could definitely fix any problem. As I grew older, I learned to allow him to be human in my picture of him. No one could live up to the perfect standard that I viewed him through.
My Daddy is like my Heavenly Father in that He has loved me through the best of times and through the worst of times in my life.
