“And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:7, NIV
When I read this verse or recall it from memory, I always envision an old style padlock with a skeleton type key. God has the key to my heart. He controls the lock.
There was a time when I thought I could have the key, the lock, the whole shooting match. But, I have learned over time that I can’t. When I have control, I mess up. My heart can be so deceptive. Too many things tug at it and next thing you know, my emotions become involved and the whirlwind flows through my entire life.
No, it’s best for God to be in control of the key to my heart. He alone knows what He has planned for my life, what I can handle, where I need to be, what I need to do.
I know almost immediately when I have tried to grab the key from His hand. It’s a tug of war I no longer want to be in.
