With much excitement and anticipation, my siblings and I scurried into the back seat of the car. We were going to our cousins’ house. Soon we were exploring the barn and playing Hide and Seek. When our energy began to wane, we headed for the house and flopped down on the living room couch or on the floor. Episodes of I Love Lucy and cartoons mesmerized us until time to go home.
What an invention! I have often wondered about the first person who dared to think they could send images through space to be seen in a living room hundreds of miles away. It revolutionized the world!
Technology has come a long way since then. As I entered my adult years, around-the-clock News Channels developed. This is when the prophesy found in Revelation 1:7 took on new meaning for me, “Look, He is coming with the clouds, and every eye will see Him……”.
Every eye will see Him. TV seemed to make the fulfillment of this prophesy in my lifetime very real. I remember an evening during the Iraq War in the early ‘90s. The enemy was launching missiles toward Israel. CNN was broadcasting the drama as it happened. It was a time when every eye seemed to be glued to that part of the world.
Today with the development of computers and cell phones, the capabilities of technology makes it even easier for every eye to see Him. Are you ready to witness that event? Titus 2:13 exhorts us to live upright and godly lives “while we wait for the blessed hope—the glorious appearing of our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ…”.
How can we live upright and godly lives? The Psalmist advises us, “How can a young man keep his way pure? By living according to Your word…I have hidden Your word in my heart that I might not sin against You.” (Psalm 119:9-11) To live according to God’s Word, we must spend time studying God’s Word, The Bible. TV, computers, and cell phones are marvelous inventions, but they can occupy too much of our time and keep us from reading the Bible and learning the commands of God. Don’t let that happen. Spend time reading and hiding God’s Word in your heart while you look for that blessed hope.
Prayer: “Father, I thank You for Your Word. I thank you that it is true and never fails. Help me be careful to spend time studying Your Word so that I might live an upright and godly life. Whether it is by the miracle of TV, or some other technological means, I look forward to the glorious appearing of my Savior, Jesus Christ. Amen”
