The city of dreams

Warm night air like a blanket
Cooling breezes from the lagoon
Sweet songs carried softly
Lapping like the ink black water
Ebb and flow so gently
Peace and contentment
The quiet thrill of romance
In the city of dreams

The single red rose
Adorned with a satin ribbon
Presented with a flourish
To the smiling senorita
A perfect evening
Hands touch lightly
Sparkling eyes
Like the sparkle
Of the diamond
On her index finger.


In another city
The air is oppressive
Heat smothers and clings
A wail sears the darkness like a knife
Emotions flooding and pounding
Sorrow welling up like a flood
Despair and grief
At the loss of a loved one
In this place of darkness

The single red rose
With a black satin ribbon
Laid gently on the casket
The thorns pierce a heart
So full yet so empty
Eyes filled with tears
Glistening in the moonlight
The sadness of the parting
The heartache of another leaving
For the city of dreams

Very nice! Excellent imagery in the two contrasting vignettes.
