It’s funny that whenever I think about abundance or provision, my thoughts immediately rush towards finances and monetary blessing. Naturally, as I prepared to write my first article about abundance, I went right to a concordance to find scriptures that would bless you with all the awesome promises of God. I then thought that if I threw a few of my own selfish, fleshly opinions into the mix, it might make for a decent first article. I’d toss in a bit of King James’ vernacular to impress the crowd, get my feet wet in the Christian writing scene, and all in all it would be a success. Then, just like that, the Holy Spirit quickened my spirit. He reminded me how my two-year-old son, just a few minutes before I sat down to write, asked me to come in and lay with him at bedtime. What a blessing it was to lay hands on my son, and as I pray the peace of God over him, watch his eyes gently close with every word uttered quietly to God. The Lord also spoke to me about how, an hour earlier, my eight year old rested in my arms as we talked about the things of God. As I prayed for God’s blessing to be upon him, he just lay there with a look of love in his eyes and a peace in his heart, knowing he was secure in the arms of his daddy and a loving Father in Heaven. Also, and let’s face it, most teenagers look at their parents like they are lepers, wanting to distance themselves from Mom and Dad as much as possible—at least until they hit around 20, when they realize once again that they don’t know everything and the lepers might know a thing or two about life. Thankfully though, I am blessed to have a 13-year old son that still looks to me for answers and actually seeks me for some of life’s solutions. He also desires that special father-son bonding time that is vital to a young man’s development into a Man of God. Who can discount the unconditional “agape” love and support I receive from my beautiful wife. Is every moment of our marriage utopia? Let’s just say that I’ll save my fantasy article for next time. I can say with assurance, looking at the ten years we’ve been married, our commitment to one another and to the Lord is as strong as it’s ever been. Money, riches, fame: I don’t believe there’s anything wrong with any of it (as long as it is not what your seeking). However, I know true abundance because I see it in the soft eyes of a child and the loving gaze of a Proverbs 31 woman. Abundance? It’s right in front of me, and has been all the time.
